1.      Potholes

Most potholes form due to expansion and contraction during freeze-thaw water cycles, and the amount of traffic on the pavement. They often appear in late winter and early spring because of changing temperatures. The constant freezing and thawing of melting snow, combined with Spring rain, weakens the pavement causing cracks that lead to potholes.

Hot mix asphalt is used to fill up the potholes. However, if this is not available, cold mix asphalt can be used to temporarily fill the pothole.

2.      Asphalt overlay

An asphalt overlay is a layer of new asphalt applied over the existing base layer on your pavement. The layer is made 1.5 – 3 inches thick, depending on the demands on the asphalt and the depth of the surface.

Asphalt concrete can be used to surface your pavement. Asphalt mixtures have been used in pavement construction for a long time. It consists of mineral aggregate bound together with asphalt, which is laid in layers, and compacted.

4.      Paving

Asphalt paving is the laying of aggregate, gravel, and sand, bound together to create a pathway that can support traffic. It begins with the preparation of the subgrade. The subgrade is graded to allow the water to run off to the sides or bottom. The perfect grade is a quarter of an inch per foot.

Using a 1,361-kg twin drum roller, or a fully loaded truck, the base soil is compacted to reduce its volume of water and air. This helps to create a harder and denser surface that can support traffic loads.

5.      Speed bumps

Asphalt speed bumps are the most common type of speed bumps seen on roads nowadays. These bumps are durable and can be easily resealed or repainted to make them noticeable.

Speed bumps are usually found in parking lots where they are utilized to limit the speed to below 15 mph. Paved speed bumps are permanent and cannot be easily damaged.

Commercial Asphalt Sealcoating

Sealcoating is an effective way to keep an appealing, secure, and usable asphalt parking lot and pavement surface. It is the application of thin coats of coal tar pitch or asphalt emulsion mixed with inert fillers, water, and emulsifying agents and additives.
